The Opportunity

Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established construction consultancy who are looking to appoint an experienced Project Senior Quantity Surveyor as part of an exciting expansion into Essex. The initial location is listed as Chelmsford; however, this is not an exact office location. The business is looking to establish a new office in Essex, and the final location can be flexible depending on the successful candidate and the requirements of the business. This represents an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who is confident working independently and taking ownership of their workload, while playing an important role in establishing and developing a new regional presence.

The Role

As Project Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial and cost management of projects from initial feasibility through to completion and final account. Given the establishment of a new Essex office, you must be competent and confident working independently, managing your own projects, workload and client relationships without requiring significant day-to-day supervision.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

Taking responsibility for Quantity Surveying and cost consultancy services across multiple projects.
Managing your own workload and projects with a high degree of autonomy.
Supporting the establishment and development of a new office presence in Essex.
Managing projects from feasibility and pre-construction through to completion and final account.
Preparing feasibility estimates, detailed cost plans and project budgets.
Advising clients on cost, procurement and commercial strategy.
Preparing tender documentation and managing competitive tender processes.
Analysing contractor submissions and preparing tender reports and recommendations.
Managing valuations, applications for payment, variations and change control.
Preparing detailed cost reports and forecasts for clients.
Monitoring project expenditure against agreed budgets.
Managing and negotiating final accounts.
Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
Attending and leading client, design team and project meetings.
Developing strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
Supporting, mentoring and developing Graduate and Assistant Surveyors as the regional team grows.
Helping promote best practice and high professional standards across the business.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and commercially strong Senior Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable operating autonomously and is excited by the opportunity to be involved in establishing a new regional office.

You Will Ideally Have

A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline - essential.
Significant Quantity Surveying or Cost Consultancy experience.
Previous experience within a construction consultancy would be highly advantageous.
The ability to work independently and confidently manage projects with minimal supervision - essential.
Experience managing your own client relationships and project portfolio.
Strong pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying experience.
Strong knowledge of cost planning, procurement, tendering, valuations, variations and final accounts.
Good knowledge of construction contracts and commercial risk.
The confidence to represent the business professionally with clients and other stakeholders.
The ability to support the establishment and growth of a new regional office.
Experience supporting, mentoring or developing junior Surveyors.
Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills.
Excellent commercial, numerical and analytical abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organisation and the ability to manage multiple project priorities.
A proactive, self-motivated and professional approach.
Chartered status or progress towards a relevant professional qualification would be advantageous.
