Health & Safety Manager

This is a hands‑on Health & Safety leadership role supporting multiple manufacturing sites during a period of significant cultural change and operational development. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the postholder will drive standards, strengthen accountability and embed a proactive safety culture across the business.

The role will primarily support Precision Casting, Goonvean Electronics in Kingsbridge and other group locations. Approximately 50% of the role will be based in Cullompton, with regular travel to Kingsbridge, Totnes and other sites. External Health & Safety consultancy support is currently in place for approximately three days per month.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage Health & Safety activities across multiple sites.
• Review, rewrite and maintain risk assessments, policies and procedures.
• Drive Health & Safety governance, legal compliance and continual improvement.
• Conduct audits, inspections and gap analyses, ensuring actions are prioritised and completed.
• Advise, coach and positively challenge managers on best practice and legal compliance.
• Develop and embed positive safety behaviours across the organisation.
• Work with leadership teams to improve accountability and ownership of Health & Safety responsibilities.
• Support site leaders in implementing and maintaining effective Health & Safety management systems.
• Use incident and near‑miss information to identify trends and deliver proactive prevention initiatives.
• Maintain a visible presence across sites through regular engagement with employees and management teams.
• Manage and prioritise a broad workload across multiple business units.

Skills and experience

• At least six to seven years of Health & Safety experience.
• Strong manufacturing experience, ideally within a multi‑site environment.
• Experience of leading safety culture change initiatives.
• Proven experience in auditing, governance and compliance management.
• Experience of developing and reviewing risk assessments, policies and procedures.
• A NEBOSH qualification or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 9001. Knowledge of ISO 50001 would be desirable.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage at all levels.
• Strong organisation and time management skills, with resilience in a changing environment.
• An energetic, supportive and approachable leadership style.

The successful candidate will quickly establish a visible presence across the sites, build strong working relationships with managers and employees, improve accountability for Health & Safety activity, modernise risk assessments and procedures, and continue the positive safety culture transformation already underway.
