• Managing the end-to-end delivery of temperature-controlled products, including fresh, ambient and frozen goods
• Conducting regular performance reviews and addressing performance or behavioural issues with drivers
• Managing HR processes including absence, disciplinary and grievance matters
• Investigating vehicle accidents, incidents and operational issues
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety across the transport operation
• Working closely with other departments to resolve issues and maintain service levels
• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, performance and resource utilisation
• Supporting the wider management team and contributing to the overall success of the operation

What we're looking for

• Significant experience in a Transport Management or Transport Operations Management position
• Strong HGV/fleet management knowledge
• Experience managing drivers and operational teams
• Experience within multi-drop distribution and transport planning
• A good understanding of Operator Licence compliance, Drivers' Hours, Working Time Regulations and tachographs
• Ideally, experience within temperature-controlled or food distribution
• Strong knowledge of transport KPIs, reporting and performance management
• Experience using Transport Management Systems and Microsoft Office
• Excellent communication and people‑management skills
• Confidence handling difficult conversations and managing challenging situations
• A strong focus on health, safety and compliance
• The ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
• A hands‑on, team‑focused approach

Why consider the role?

• £42,327.71 basic salary
• Additional £3,000 shift allowance
• 4-on / 4-off shift pattern
• Alternating days and nights
• Pension scheme which increases with service
• Life Assurance of up to 4x basic salary
• Retail discounts of up to 20%
• Free on-site parking
• Employee Assistance Programme
• Regular training and genuine career progression opportunities

The ideal candidate

This would suit an experienced Transport Manager, Transport Shift Manager, Transport Team Manager, Assistant Transport Manager or Senior Transport Supervisor who is ready to take ownership of a busy operation.

If you're comfortable managing drivers, HGV fleets, compliance and operational performance, and you're looking for a role where you're genuinely involved in the operation rather than sitting behind a desk, we'd like to hear from you
