NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC) provides Specialist Oncology services to 60% of the Scottish population. The centre sees over 8,000 new patients a year and over 60,000 return patients. Over 105, 000 fractions courses of radiotherapy and over 25,000 cycles of SACT is given each year.
The Specialist Oncology Service is looking for a Consultant Oncologist in Gynaecological cancers. This post represents an opportunity for a clinician with imagination, drive and commitment to work with the other oncology consultants and the wider cancer multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will provide Gynaecological Oncology expertise based in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The successful applicant will take up a post providing Clinical Oncology input to Gynaecological cancer services. The cancer services in West of Scotland are linked to the relevant local and regional MDTs. These services are mature, developed and supported by teams of existing Consultant Clinical and Medical Oncologists. Cross cover is provided by named colleagues. Note that the post holder works as part of the team to manage cross cover for clinics.
The successful applicant will participate in clinical supervision of trainees. Clinical trial recruitment is embedded within clinical practice within Specialist Oncology, which has an excellent supportive trials team and an exceptional track record for opening and recruiting to trials. The BWoSCC has a suite of seminar rooms for lectures and meetings and there is a well developed program of postgraduate medical education within the department, held on a Friday afternoon.
The BWOSCC has an excellent track record in clinical research. It is a major contributor to local, national and international trials with circa 1000 patients a year being entered and randomised through the Clinical Trials Unit. Patient numbers are such that the service is often among the global top recruiting sites in international trials, ensuring high impact publications for committed investigators.
