PHP / Laravel Developer

Hadleigh Source: WhatJobs
£42,000–£56,000

We’re looking for a PHP / Laravel Developer to join a small, established development team within a growing organisation.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with 2+ years of commercial development experience who has solid PHP fundamentals and hands‑on experience with Laravel or Symfony. You don’t need to be an exceptionally senior developer, but you should be capable of getting up to speed quickly, working with an existing codebase and contributing without significant hand-holding.

The development team is increasingly embracing AI-assisted software development, particularly Claude Code and Anthropic models, so we're interested in developers who are comfortable using AI to increase productivity while still being able to understand, review and challenge the code being produced.

What you’ll be doing

  • Developing and maintaining applications using PHP and Laravel
  • Building new functionality and improving existing applications
  • Developing and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Working with MySQL and relational databases
  • Using Git/GitHub for version control
  • Working within Linux-based environments
  • Using Claude Code and AI-assisted development tools
  • Reviewing, adapting and improving AI-generated code
  • Writing clean, maintainable and secure production code
  • Identifying and addressing common web application security vulnerabilities
  • Collaborating closely with an experienced development team

What we’re looking for

  • 2+ years' commercial software development experience
  • Strong commercial PHP experience
  • Experience with Laravel and/or Symfony
  • MySQL or similar relational databases
  • RESTful API development and integration
  • Git/GitHub
  • Understanding of secure web development practices
  • Awareness of OWASP and common web application vulnerabilities
  • Ability to confidently work within an existing production codebase

Experience with Claude Code, Anthropic or other AI coding assistants would be highly desirable. Exposure to Bootstrap, Tailwind and Linux would also be beneficial.

This position would suit a developer who has progressed beyond junior level and can contribute independently, but still wants to continue developing alongside an experienced team.

The role offers hybrid working, with two days per week in the Hadleigh office and three days from home.

If you're a PHP Developer with Laravel or Symfony experience and you're interested in working within a modern, AI-enabled development environment, we'd love to hear from you.
