Project Architect: Residential Masterplanning
An established London architecture practice is looking for a Project Architect to strengthen its masterplanning team, working directly with the Director and Associate who lead the practice's residential and masterplanning work.
This is early stage residential design. The work is low to medium density housing, typically 3 to 5 storeys, on regional sites across the UK rather than high rise regeneration in central London. The portfolio spans town centre regeneration, urban extensions and new settlements, with schemes ranging from a few hundred homes to several thousand. You would pick up commissions at the very beginning: site appraisal, strategic masterplanning, design coding, and outline and detailed planning applications, through to individual plot layouts.
What you would be doing
Running residential led masterplanning commissions from first appraisal through to planning submission
Preparing design codes for large scale residential schemes
Preparing outline and detailed planning applications in the UK
Working across every scale, from the strategic masterplan down to plot layouts
Presenting work to clients, local authorities and the public, and leading stakeholder and community engagement
Coordinating consultant teams and managing the flow of information
Everything from 3D modelling and sketching to compiling reports and presentation material
What they are looking for
Qualified architect with a minimum of five years' experience in residential design
Demonstrable masterplanning and design coding experience
A track record of UK outline and detailed planning applications for residential led, low to medium rise projects
A genuinely strong communicator. This is the single most important requirement. You will be trusted to front meetings and present the work, not sit behind someone who does it for you
Confidence in client facing settings and in public and stakeholder engagement
Proficiency in Revit, the Adobe Suite and SketchUp
A real interest in sustainability and place led design
What is on offer
Competitive salary based on experience
Employee ownership trust with profit share
Mentoring programme and structured L&D
Professional memberships paid
Cycle to work scheme, regular social events, a friendly studio
A clear route to Associate for the right person, in a practice actively growing its masterplanning offer
