The Role

My client is looking for an experienced MECHANICALLY BIAS MEP Manager to take responsibility for the delivery of the mechanical and electrical services across a major construction project in Guildford, Surrey .

This is very much a boots on the ground, delivery focused role . They need somebody who is visible on site, comfortable managing specialist subcontractors and capable of driving the M&E package through installation, commissioning and final handover.

You will work closely with the Project Manager, site team, consultants and specialist M&E contractors to ensure the building services are delivered safely, correctly and in line with programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take day to day responsibility for the M&E delivery on site
  • Manage mechanical and electrical subcontractors and ensure works are progressing to programme
  • Coordinate M&E activities with the wider construction programme
  • Review drawings, specifications, technical submissions and installation information
  • Identify design or coordination issues and drive them through to resolution
  • Carry out quality inspections and ensure installations meet the required standards
  • Manage QA documentation, inspections, testing and snagging
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and challenge delays or poor workmanship
  • Attend M&E coordination, progress and subcontractor meetings
  • Work closely with the design team and consultants throughout the construction process
  • Coordinate testing and commissioning activities
  • Manage completion of snagging and outstanding works
  • Ensure O&M information and handover documentation is completed correctly
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety across all M&E activities
  • Support the project team through practical completion and final handover

The Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as an M&E Manager, Building Services Manager or Senior M&E Project Manager
  • Strong experience delivering M&E packages for a main contractor
  • Good mechanical and electrical technical knowledge
  • Experience managing specialist M&E subcontractors
  • Strong understanding of QA, commissioning and handover
  • Experience working on sizeable construction projects
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications and technical information
  • Strong programme awareness and the ability to drive subcontractors
  • A practical, delivery focused approach
  • Confidence dealing with subcontractors, consultants and internal project teams

Experience within large scale residential developments would be particularly beneficial.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join an established main contractor with a strong pipeline of work and take genuine ownership of the building services package.

They are looking for somebody who wants to be involved in the detail, drive the job forward and become an integral part of the wider project team rather than simply managing the M&E package from behind a desk.
