We are currently seeking experienced Dermatology Surgical Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) to support weekend insourcing clinics, helping deliver NHS waiting list initiatives across a range of dermatology services.
This is an excellent opportunity to join experienced teams delivering high‑quality patient care within busy outpatient settings, supporting clinicians and patients throughout their clinic journey.
Requirements
Have recent, hands‑on experience supporting dermatology theatres
Have been actively undertaking this work for at least 6 months within the past 12 months
You will also have:
Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within an NHS dermatology theatre setting
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Organisational skills and attention to detail
A patient‑focused approach with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Responsibilities include supporting with:
Pre‑operative assessment
Preparing for dermatological surgery
Intra‑operative assistance
Assist the dermatologist, dermatological surgeon or other clinician during procedures such as:
Skin biopsies
Excision of skin lesions
Curettage and cautery
Punch biopsies
Minor skin cancer procedures
Mohs surgery, where applicable
Maintain aseptic technique and a safe sterile field.
Handle instruments and specimens appropriately.
Monitor the patient’s condition and provide reassurance throughout the procedure.
Recognise and respond promptly to complications
Specimen management
Post‑operative care
Patient education and support
Medicines and local anaesthetics
Documentation and clinical governance
