Technical Sales Manager

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated technical sales professional to join our team. The function will be responsible for developing business with new and existing customers across the UK CASE & Construction industry.

The Sales Manager will sell our extensive range of specialty chemicals including additives, resins, and fillers, into architectural, industrial, and powder coatings, as well as cementitious building products - such as resinous building products, renders, gypsum, and concrete.

The role entails developing fruitful relationships with customers and suppliers using phone calls, emails, and face-to-face visits. The role will involve significant UK travel as well as some international travel. The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a highly curious and self-starter personality.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and develop strong relationships across customer organisations in CASE & construction, primarily within R&D and purchasing departments.
• Deliver new business by cross selling materials from the Lawrence Industries portfolio to existing customers, as well as qualifying inbound leads and proactively prospecting potential new customers.
• Coordinate with internal sales support, as well as our suppliers and Brenntag application development labs to support customer projects.
• Lead the full commercial process, from lead qualification though to samples, scale-up and pricing discussions.
• Provide market feedback on customer activity, competitor developments, pricing, product gaps and emerging application opportunities.
• As part of the wider marketing strategy, produce engaging technical articles and multimedia on a range of topics

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

• Proven success in technical sales within specialty chemicals into CASE and/or construction markets, with a track record of winning new customers and developing project-based sales opportunities from initial contact to commercialisation.
• Demonstrable technical knowledge of one or more CASE & construction segments. Ability to conduct credible technical conversations with formulators and chemists, as well as translate technical product features into customer benefits.
• Strong commercial judgment related to opportunity qualification and value pricing.
• A highly curious personality with innate desire to understand and overcome customer formulation challenges. Ability to work independently with natural problem-solving skills and a self-starter attitude.
• Clear written, verbal, and presentation skills, as well as exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly within the UK & Ireland to visit customers, alongside limited international travel for supplier visits & trade-shows.

Experience

We welcome applicants from various stages in their sales career. Commercial experience is highly beneficial, but we will also consider commercially minded applicants seeking to transition from a lab-based or product management role into technical sales.

Education

Master degree in Chemistry, or equivalent industrial experience
