Veterinary Surgeon — 4-Day Week, No OOH/Bank Holidays

Doncaster Source: WhatJobs

£45,000–£55,000

Who They Are

GVC is supporting a friendly, supportive small animal team in Doncaster (South Yorkshire) looking to add a Veterinary Surgeon. They operate across two sites (a main hospital and a refurbished branch) with a team of six vets and a broad mix of interests, so there’s day-to-day support and a real focus on development. Out-of-hours and bank holiday cover is handled by an external provider, including overnight inpatient care, allowing good continuity without an in-house OOH rota.

What You’ll Do

This is a role for a Veterinary Surgeon who can work independently in medicine and surgery, maintaining high clinical standards without needing close clinical supervision. Depending on your strengths, you can shape your week towards:

Consulting and case workups with in-house diagnostics and a strong "work up most cases internally" approach
Surgical lists with scope for a wide range of procedures, including laparoscopic and orthopaedic work (where appropriate to experience)
Dedicated hospital shifts supporting inpatients and handling emergency presentations, alongside routine GP work
Clear client communication, safe decision-making, and consistent case management standards
Collaboration with the wider team across both sites to keep patient flow, handovers, and outcomes strong

Whether you prefer medicine, surgery, or a genuine mix, the rota can be built around what you enjoy doing most.

What You’ll Gain

Salary up to £50,000 DOE
40 hours over a 4-day week (part-time considered)
No OOH and no bank holidays worked
Approx. 1:6 Saturday mornings (8:00-12:30) with time off in lieu
5 weeks holiday , option to buy/sell leave
Paid RCVS, VDS, plus one additional membership
CPD encouraged and funded with £1,750 allowance (certificates supported)
Enhanced sickness and enhanced family leave policies (maternity/paternity/parental/surrogacy/adoption)
Health & wellbeing cash plan + cycle-to-work scheme
(Confirmed perk) Well-behaved pets can be welcome at work

If you’re looking for a Doncaster-based Vet Surgeon role with a genuine 4-day week, no OOH, and a team that will shape the job around your clinical interests.
