Private Client Solicitor - Probate

We’re Octopus Legacy: one of the fastest growing tech companies in the country, part of the UK’s most exciting and best-trusted group (you may have heard of some of our sister companies…) and we have a mission.

We’re on a path to scale, aiming to become a household name while transforming a long-established industry and helping our customers prepare for, and find support after, death.

But we can’t do it alone, and that’s why we’re assembling a team of top performers to build with us.

Ready to be part of something big?

The Role

We’re on a mission to revolutionise Probate and Estate Planning by building a more human, tech‑enabled legal experience - and we’re looking for a hands‑on, passionate Private Client Solicitor to join us on the journey.

You’ll be joining the legal arm of Octopus Legacy, working at the heart of our Probate service. From day one, you’ll take ownership of a diverse caseload, primarily focused on probate and estate administration, with the opportunity to expand into trusts and estate planning over time.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Private Client Solicitor ready to leave the traditional law firm model behind. You’ll join our expanding legal team to introduce fresh ideas, streamline processes, and challenge the status quo. In doing so, you’ll play a key role in shaping innovative ways of delivering probate services.

Key Responsibilities

• Work cross‑functionally between Octopus Legacy and our subsidiary Octopus Legal Services.
• Manage a portfolio of probate matters, demonstrating expertise in complex grant‑only and administration cases.
• Act as a key client contact from the outset, leading initial calls and fostering trust throughout the process through clear and empathetic communication.
• Support estate planning work, including complex wills, with opportunities to work on trusts where relevant.
• Help us build and refine scalable legal processes – contributing to templates, resources, and the evolution of how we do things.
• Collaborate across the wider Octopus Legacy and Octopus Legal Services teams, sharing insights and working together to provide a seamless client journey.
• Be open to ad‑hoc projects and responsibilities that come with being part of a fast‑moving, high‑growth team.

Who Are You?

• A qualified Private Client Solicitor focused on Probate with 3+ years PQE.
• Organised and proactive, with a calm, confident approach to managing your workload and juggling priorities.
• Capacity to thrive under pressure and effectively manage competing demands.
• Excited by the opportunity to help shape a new way of delivering legal services, breaking away from the grind – this is still law, but not as you know it.
• Looking for something different to the traditional firm model – more ownership, more learning, and less red tape.
• Full TEP membership (preferable).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Confidence and passion to develop our offerings in this area.
• Ability to explain complex legal concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• High levels of compassion, discretion, and care.
• Strong active listening skills to understand clients’ unique needs.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑moving, start‑up environment.

Benefits

• Hybrid working (London Bridge).
• Flexible holiday + extra day off for your Birthday.
• Work from anywhere in the world for up to 4 weeks per year.
• Vitality Health & Life Insurance.
• Enhanced parental leave.
• Free Will & LPAs + discounts on other Octopus services.
• Cycle to Work Scheme and access to the Electric Vehicle (EV) Salary Sacrifice Scheme.
• Octopus Giving: we match any charitable fundraising that you do up to £500.
• Breakfast every day, snacks and wellness activities.

We know that to be truly innovative, we need to have a diverse team around us. That is why Octopus Legacy is committed to creating an inclusive environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
