Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer to join their London, Greater London office. This is an excellent opportunity for a specialist costs professional with strong legal aid experience, particularly within family law, to join a well‑established and growing team.

The Role

• Preparing and submitting legal aid bills, including fixed fee, exceptional case and high‑cost case claims
• Managing CCMS submissions and ensuring compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements
• Preparing and submitting supporting documentation and cost bundles
• Drafting interim and final private client bills of costs
• Advising on costs recovery strategies and negotiating costs settlements
• Serving bills in accordance with procedural requirements and costs protocols
• Liaising with fee earners, counsel, chambers and third parties regarding costs recovery
• Monitoring recoverable disbursements and ensuring claims are submitted promptly
• Supporting file closure processes and related administration
• Providing guidance and training to colleagues on costs matters and best practice
• Keeping up to date with developments in legal aid funding and costs legislation

The Candidate

• Minimum 1 year’s experience as a Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer
• Strong background in legal aid costs, ideally within family law
• Experience preparing inter partes bills and high‑cost case claims
• Excellent working knowledge of CCMS and Legal Aid Agency procedures
• Strong understanding of costs law and Civil Procedure Rules relating to costs
• Experience negotiating costs and maximising recovery
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Costs Master
• Professional and approachable manner
