Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

PK Education is recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Pastoral Mentor to join a specialist SEMH secondary school based in Smethwick.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who require additional emotional, behavioural and pastoral support.

The school offers small class sizes , allowing staff to build strong relationships with pupils and provide personalised support in a nurturing and structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group pastoral support to secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
• Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management and social development.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour.
• Work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to promote pupil wellbeing.
• Help students overcome barriers to learning and improve engagement, attendance and confidence.
• Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
• Create a safe, supportive and inclusive school environment.

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience working with young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or additional learning needs.
• A background in pastoral care, mentoring, youth work, behaviour support or education.
• Strong communication, relationship-building and behaviour management skills.
• A patient, resilient and empathetic approach.
• A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their potential.
