The Opportunity
We are looking to speak with experienced Interim Chief Accountants and Corporate Finance Managers who have a strong background in Local Government and are considering their next contract.
We are particularly interested in hands-on technical accountants who can take ownership of statutory accounts, year-end closedown and wider corporate finance responsibilities, rather than solely overseeing the work of others.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation and delivery of local authority Statements of Accounts.
Manage year-end closedown, external audit and technical accounting matters.
Oversee balance-sheet reconciliations, working papers and statutory disclosures.
Provide technical advice on capital accounting, fixed assets, reserves and treasury management.
Support cash-flow forecasting, financial controls and corporate reporting.
Resolve outstanding audit queries and improve the quality of financial information.
Support finance teams through periods of change, vacancies or increased workload.
About You
Fully qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
Recent experience in a Local Authority finance team, ideally at district, borough or county council level.
Proven hands-on experience preparing Statements of Accounts.
Strong understanding of the CIPFA/LASAAC Code and local government accounting requirements.
Comfortable working independently and delivering against challenging deadlines.
