ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT / PURCHASE LEDGER CLERK – SANDBACH

Location: Sandbach, Cheshire (commutable from Crewe, Middlewich, Holmes Chapel and Congleton)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm or 9:00am–5:00pm

ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT / PURCHASE LEDGER CLERK – THE OPPORTUNITY

We are recruiting for an experienced Accounts Assistant / Purchase Ledger Clerk to join a successful, well-established and growing business based in Sandbach, Cheshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant with a strong purchase ledger background to join a friendly, supportive finance team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for processing supplier invoices, reconciling accounts, coordinating payments and supporting the smooth running of the purchase ledger function.

ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT – KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Process purchase invoices accurately and efficiently.
• Match supplier invoices against purchase orders and relevant records.
• Investigate invoice discrepancies and liaise with suppliers to resolve queries.
• Distribute unmatched invoices to regional offices for approval and coordinate responses.
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve outstanding differences.
• Assist with the preparation and coordination of supplier payments.
• Facilitate urgent payments to shipping lines when required.
• Liaise with international offices and suppliers regarding invoices and payments.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date purchase ledger records.
• Provide general administrative support to the finance department.
• Work closely with the Senior Accounts Assistant to ensure invoices are processed and paid within agreed timescales.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with company procedures.

ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT – ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Previous experience working in an Accounts Assistant or Purchase Ledger position is essential.
• Experience processing medium to high volumes of purchase invoices.
• Good understanding of purchase ledger processes, invoice matching and supplier reconciliations.
• Experience using accounting software, ideally SAP.
• Good Microsoft Excel and general IT skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organise workloads, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
• Confident communicating with suppliers and internal departments.
• A proactive, flexible and professional approach to work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.

Desirable:

• Previous experience using SAP.
• Experience working within a business with international operations.
• Previous DBS check or willingness to undergo one if required.
