Unqualified Teacher

Cover Supervisor – Sheffield | Flexible Day-to-Day Opportunities

Location: Sheffield
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Flexible Supply / Temporary
Working Pattern: Full-time, Part-time or Flexible Days
Salary: Competitive Daily Rates

Job Description

Are you confident, enthusiastic and enjoy working with young people? Looking for a rewarding role in education that offers flexibility, variety and the opportunity to make a real difference?

PK Education are recruiting Cover Supervisors to work across a wide network of secondary schools in Sheffield and the surrounding areas.

Whether you're an experienced Cover Supervisor, a recent graduate considering a career in teaching, a sports coach, Teaching Assistant or someone with experience working with young people, we'd love to hear from you.

You do not need to be a qualified teacher!

As a Cover Supervisor, you'll step into the classroom when the usual teacher is absent, ensuring students remain engaged, focused and on task. Lessons will already be planned, so your responsibility is to supervise the class, explain the activities and maintain a positive learning environment.

The best part? You choose when you work!

We offer flexible day-to-day assignments, allowing you to work as many or as few days as you like. Whether you're looking for five days a week, a couple of days around other commitments or occasional work to gain experience, we'll work around your availability.

The Opportunities

• Flexible day-to-day Cover Supervisor assignments across Sheffield secondary schools
• Choose the days you want to work, with no obligation to accept every booking
• Supervising classes across KS3 and KS4
• Delivering pre-planned work across a variety of subjects
• Managing classroom behaviour and ensuring students remain engaged
• Supporting students with their learning where appropriate
• Building relationships with local schools and gaining valuable classroom experience
• Opportunities for regular bookings and longer-term placements
• Working within a variety of secondary school environments

Who Are We Looking For?

Previous Cover Supervisor experience is desirable but not essential. We're particularly interested in hearing from:

• Graduates considering a career in teaching
• Teaching Assistants looking to progress into classroom supervision
• Sports coaches and activity leaders
• Youth workers and mentors
• Individuals with experience supporting or supervising groups of young people
• Aspiring teachers looking to gain experience before completing teacher training
• Experienced Cover Supervisors looking for more flexibility

The Ideal Candidate

• Have experience working with children or young people, ideally of secondary school age
• Be confident supervising groups of students aged 11–16
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Be comfortable managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
• Be reliable, adaptable and enthusiastic
• Have a genuine interest in education and supporting young people
• Hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS Check

Why Is Cover Supervision a Great Opportunity?

Cover supervision is an excellent way to gain hands-on classroom experience without needing a teaching qualification.

For graduates considering teaching, it provides an opportunity to experience life in a secondary school, develop classroom management skills and build confidence working with students.

For experienced Teaching Assistants, sports coaches and youth workers, it's a chance to transfer your existing skills into a new environment and take greater responsibility in the classroom.

And for experienced Cover Supervisors, day-to-day supply offers the freedom to choose when and where you work without committing to a permanent position.

Why Choose PK Education?

• PK Education is a leading local teaching agency, established in 2005
• Excellent competitive daily rates
• Complete flexibility – you tell us when you're available
• Established relationships with secondary schools across Sheffield and South Yorkshire
• Opportunities for regular bookings at schools you enjoy working in
• No pressure to accept assignments that don't suit you
• Dedicated support from a local consultant who understands the schools you work in
• Access to day-to-day, short-term and long-term opportunities
