Junior Export Operator - Freight Forwarding - Thurrock

About the Company

Our client is a UK-based NVOCC (non-vessel operating common carrier), handling groupage and consolidated LCL sea freight, both import and export. They work with customers and overseas agents across a wide range of destinations. The position is office based within their export team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to learn the freight forwarding business properly. Reporting to the export team, the successful candidate will start by supporting the experienced operators on the desk and assisting the documentation supervisor, taking on more of the work as they learn, with the potential to progress to handling their own trade lane.

The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in freight forwarding and shipping, with excellent attention to detail and the sense to ask questions when unsure rather than guess. Full training will be provided, and no prior freight experience is required.

Junior Export Operator - The Details

Full-time, permanent position
Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 17:30
20 days holiday plus all UK bank holidays
Full training provided

Junior Export Operator - Requirements

• A genuine interest in learning freight forwarding and shipping
• Accurate and careful with detail, as much of this work is about getting information right first time
• Organised, with the ability to keep on top of several things at once
• Good written and spoken English, with the ability to write a clear, professional email and speak confidently to customers on the phone
• Friendly and polite, and happy working as part of a small team
• Comfortable with Microsoft Office packages
• Willingness to ask questions and take direction

Desirable:

• Any previous office, administration or customer service experience
• Any exposure to freight, shipping, logistics or import/export, including placements or part-time work

Junior Export Operator - Responsibilities

• Help direct queries to the right person
• Keep shipment details accurate and up to date
• Chase customers and suppliers for documents and information
• Arrange shipping documentation and support the documentation supervisor with all necessary tasks
• File paperwork and keep records in order
• Answer straightforward queries from customers and overseas agents by phone and email
• Support the experienced operators on the desk
• Provide general support to the export team
