Managing Building Surveyor

About the Opportunity
A leading multidisciplinary consultancy is looking for a Managing Building Surveyor to join their collaborative Buildings & Places team in Cardiff. This is a strong opportunity for a Chartered Building Surveyor who enjoys variety, client relationships, team leadership and the chance to work on high-profile projects across the UK.
The role sits within an established Building Surveying team and offers exposure across retail, health, energy, commercial property, education and public sector projects. It would suit someone who is technically strong, commercially aware and confident, working closely with clients while supporting and developing more junior colleagues.
You would be working alongside senior managers and leading multidisciplinary teams on refurbishment, improvement and modernisation projects. The position offers a clear route for continued career development, with scope to build client relationships, contribute to bids and play a key role in the growth of the team.
There is an exceptional balance of delivery, leadership and commercial input on offer, while still being close to the technical detail of Building Surveying. With the platform to mentor others, manage clients and influence the direction of project work across a varied portfolio, this is an outstanding role for a leader with technical expertise.
Responsibilities of the Role

This is a senior Building Surveying role with a strong mix of project delivery, client management, mentoring and business development. Responsibilities are likely to include:

• Delivering a broad range of Building Surveying services, including feasibility studies, specifications, estimates, statutory approvals and contract administration
• Working across refurbishment, improvement and modernisation projects in a range of sectors
• Using and applying standard forms of building contract, including JCT and NEC
• Managing client relationships and helping deliver a first-class service to key clients
• Mentoring and training Building Surveyors, including supporting Junior Surveyors through the RICS APC process
• Line managing junior Building Surveying staff and supporting senior managers with day-to-day team activity
• Supporting new business opportunities, including preparation and submission of bids

About You
This will suit a Chartered Building Surveyor with strong technical experience, good commercial judgement and the confidence to take ownership of client relationships and team development. You will ideally bring:

• MRICS Chartered status, or a strong route towards this where relevant
• Sound technical Building Surveying knowledge and significant post-qualification experience
• Experience delivering refurbishment, improvement and modernisation projects
• Strong client management skills, commercial awareness and an understanding of profitability and business development
• Experience mentoring, training or coaching colleagues, with line management experience highly desirable
• A full understanding of Health & Safety requirements and statutory compliance
• Excellent time management, reliability and a committed, proactive approach to getting work done

What's on Offer?
The role offers the chance to join a major multidisciplinary consultancy with a strong national platform, varied project work and a collaborative team culture where everyone has a voice. The package includes:

• Competitive salary that scales with responsibility and the ability to win work
• Comprehensive employee reward and support package
• Hybrid working and flexible holiday allowances
• A tailored range of health, wellbeing, financial and lifestyle benefits
• Training and professional development to continue building your skills and expertise
• The opportunity to work on exciting and prestigious projects across multiple sectors

Ready?
If you are a Chartered Building Surveyor looking for a role with more variety, more responsibility and a stronger platform for long-term development, this is worth exploring. You would be joining a collaborative national consultancy with a strong Cardiff presence, a broad client base and a clear opportunity to combine technical delivery with leadership, client development and mentoring.
