Caretaker – Multi-Site

Location: Plymouth
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Approx. 2:30pm–6:30pm, Monday to Friday – flexible for the right candidate
Contract: Temporary with potential for longer-term work

We are currently recruiting for a Caretaker to support a school across multiple sites in Plymouth.

The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to maintain a safe, clean and secure environment across the school sites, with travel between sites required .

The Role:

General caretaking and site maintenance duties
Ensuring school premises are safe, secure and well maintained
Carrying out basic maintenance and repairs where required
Supporting with the opening and closing of sites
Moving between school sites as required
Responding to general site issues and ensuring a high standard of presentation
Working flexibly as part of the wider school team

The school can be flexible around hours , with afternoons being preferred, ideally around 2:30pm–6:30pm . Please note that children are on site between approximately 8:30am and 2:30pm, so some caretaking tasks may be limited during the school day.

Previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance or site experience would be advantageous. A full driving licence and ability to travel between sites is also preferred.

Requirements & Vetting

As this is a school-based position, all candidates will be required to complete the necessary recruitment and safeguarding checks, including:

Minimum of 2 employer references covering the previous 24 months
If you have not worked with children previously, 3 references will be required
Any employment gaps will require a professional character reference
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service preferred ; otherwise, you must be willing to obtain a new Enhanced DBS
Right to Work documentation
2 proofs of address (e.g. utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months, or council tax dated within the last 12 months)
Proof of National Insurance number
Proof of any name changes, where applicable
Overseas police check if you have lived outside the UK for more than 6 months
Completion of our online mandatory training courses, which are provided free of charge
