Catering Assistant – School Setting

Help make lunchtime one of the best parts of the school day.

We’re looking for a friendly and reliable Catering Assistant to join a busy school kitchen team. You’ll play an important part in preparing and serving meals, keeping the kitchen clean and organised, and creating a positive lunchtime experience for pupils.

School experience isn’t essential. If you’re hardworking, enjoy being part of a team and can keep up with a busy lunchtime service, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

• Assisting with basic food preparation and helping to get meals ready for service.
• Serving food to pupils and staff in a friendly and welcoming manner.
• Setting up counters, serving stations and dining areas before lunchtime.
• Washing dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment.
• Keeping work surfaces, kitchen areas and equipment clean and hygienic.
• Helping with deliveries, food storage and stock rotation.
• Supporting the wider kitchen team during busy periods.
• Following food hygiene, health and safety, and safeguarding procedures at all times.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
• Friendly and comfortable working around children and school staff.
• Happy working as part of a busy team.
• Able to follow instructions and work efficiently.
• Committed to maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Previous experience within catering, hospitality, food service or a school kitchen would be beneficial, but it isn’t essential.

A Level 2 Food Safety/Food Hygiene certificate and knowledge of allergens or dietary requirements would also be advantageous.

Working pattern

This is a term-time position , with working hours agreed depending on the school and placement.

The role is hands-on and will involve standing for periods of time, food preparation, cleaning and some lifting.
