Interim Category Specialist

Sue Ross Recruitment are delighted to be working with a well-established international organisation in the Sheffield area who are seeking an experienced Interim Category Specialist to join their Procurement team for a period of approximately 12 months.

This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional with strong contract management , negotiation and supplier relationship skills to support a busy organisation through a period of change and development.

Reporting to the Procurement Team Leader, you will be responsible for managing a range of procurement categories, supporting contract lifecycle management and ensuring the business receives maximum value from its supplier relationships.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing expiring contracts and leading tender, RFQ, benchmarking, extension and negotiation activities.
• Working closely with internal stakeholders to develop procurement strategies and support contract award decisions.
• Drafting, reviewing and amending contracts in conjunction with legal teams.
• Managing supplier relationships and conducting regular performance review meetings.
• Monitoring contract compliance and ensuring contractual obligations are met by all parties.
• Identifying opportunities for cost savings, added value and process improvements.
• Producing procurement reports and analysing spend, demand and usage data.
• Supporting the implementation and management of new suppliers and services.
• Working collaboratively with both UK and international procurement colleagues to support wider procurement initiatives.
• Ensuring robust procurement governance and adherence to internal policies and procedures.

About You

The successful candidate will possess:

• Previous procurement, purchasing or category management experience.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
• Experience of tender processes, contract drafting and contract management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
• A methodical approach with exceptional attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
• The ability to prioritise a varied workload and meet tight deadlines.
• A proactive, self-motivated and team-oriented approach.
