Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)?
A welcoming primary school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for two Year 2 pupils with autism. This split role involves supporting one pupil in the morning and another in the afternoon.
Both pupils are verbal, academically able, and eager to learn but require tailored support to manage emotions, access learning, and thrive within a mainstream classroom environment.
The afternoon pupil experiences sensory sensitivities, particularly around noise, and can become dysregulated when overwhelmed. You will play a key role in helping her recognise triggers, regulate emotions, and remain engaged with learning activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 support for two pupils with ASC
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
• Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs
• Help pupils access the curriculum and classroom routines
• Build positive relationships that promote confidence and independence
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff
Requirements
Essential
• Previous experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Experience working as a SEN Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant
• Calm, patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
• Strong communication and behaviour management skills
Desirable
• Relevant SEN or Teaching Assistant qualification
• Experience supporting pupils with additional needs in a primary school setting
What We Offer
• Competitive pay of £90–£100 per day
• Full-time role within a supportive primary school
• Ongoing support from Teach Now
• Valuable SEN experience and career development opportunities
• The chance to make a real difference to children's lives
