Business Development Manager

Overview

In this role you drive SME growth in the UK by leading consultative sales conversations with senior decision-makers. You will build and manage a high-quality outbound pipeline, aiming to convert opportunities into profitable spend for American Express. You’ll own the full sales cycle—from prospecting to onboarding—working with cross-functional teams to ensure a smooth client experience. Your work directly supports expanding the SME portfolio in a high-performance environment. This is a strategic, outbound-focused opportunity to shape how SMEs access and deploy payment solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and continuously replenish a UK-based prospect pipeline targeting 1m–50m revenue companies
• Engage senior decision-makers through high-volume outbound calls and targeted emails
• Apply a consultative approach to understand needs and position AMEX products effectively
• Own end-to-end sales cycle from qualification to close and onboarding
• Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly acquisition and spend targets
• Maintain accurate pipeline management and forecasting using CRM and sales enablement tools
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure a positive onboarding experience
• Maintain strong knowledge of AMEX products, market trends, and industry developments
• Adhere to sales policies, procedures, and compliance requirements

Key requirements

• Proven success in a target-driven role with a track record of meeting or exceeding goals
• Strong consultative selling skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders in a B2B setting
• Experience managing and converting an outbound sales pipeline in a high-performance environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with confidence engaging decision-makers
