Consultant in Plastic Surgery (Breast Reconstruction and Skin Cancer)

Overview

Join the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery department as a Consultant, contributing to a broad reconstructive service across Oxford and partner sites. You will work within a consultant-led team delivering a range of plastic surgery and cancer-related care, with opportunities for teaching, research, and cross-site collaboration. The role involves on-call duties and supports a multidisciplinary environment with mentors for new consultants. This is a chance to shape patient care in a high-volume teaching trust and engage with innovative training and governance activities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general plastic surgery services at John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford)
• Participate in on-call rotation (currently 1 in 14)
• Collaborate with breast, skin cancer, head & neck, and trauma services across Oxford and Swindon
• Engage in teaching, training, and examinations for clinical students and junior doctors
• Contribute to clinical governance activities including audits, risk management, and quality improvement
• Support research opportunities in partnership with Oxford University
• Provide mentorship and professional development support within the department

Key requirements

• Broad experience in general plastic surgery
• Competence in microsurgical reconstruction and skin oncology
• Ability to make consultant-level decisions and manage complex clinical problems
• Experience in leadership roles within a clinical team is desirable
• UK consultant-level leadership in breast reconstruction, skin oncology, and trauma (desirable)
