Scientist II

Overview

As Flavour Senior Scientist II, you will provide technical direction in the RSSL Food Sciences lab, ensuring complex flavour projects are executed on time and to quality standards. You will conduct GC-O, GC-MS and LC-MS analyses, develop and validate methods, and mentor junior staff. You will maintain laboratories, manage data integrity, and support client communications and reporting. This role offers scope to influence project strategies and collaborate across teams in a leading CRO environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction across departments within your area of expertise
• Conduct analyses using GC-O, GC-MS and LC-MS independently
• Develop methods and design validation protocols
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
• Perform data checking and interpret results for routine testing
• Generate certificates of analysis and external interpretive reports
• Train and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods
• Manage a portfolio of projects within your technical area
• Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to communicate proposals and results
• Provide expert input in client and stakeholder meetings and present data

Key requirements

• Degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent laboratory experience
• Excellent understanding of chromatography systems (GC-O, GC-MS, LC-MS)
• Ability to independently conduct chemical analysis in the relevant area
• Strong knowledge of GMP/UKAS and laboratory quality systems
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills
• Meticulous, well-organized, and collaborative with a team-based work style
• Ability to deliver projects within tight timescales and mentor junior staff
• Project management and planning skills
• Computer literacy in MS Office
• Extended experience in flavour chemistry
• Experience with CRO environments
