Head of Transformation Portfolio Planning

Overview

In this leadership role, you drive the transformation portfolio planning function for a large London-based bank. You develop strategies, oversee demand-capacity balance, and provide data-driven insights to steer senior decisions. You’ll lead budgeting, forecasting, and risk mitigation while coordinating cross-functional delivery. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on performance management to enable enterprise-wide change.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement portfolio planning strategies aligned with business objectives
• Monitor portfolio performance and provide actionable insights
• Manage end-to-end portfolio budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Oversee team-level expense management and headcount planning
• Provide analysis to inform prioritisation and senior decision making
• Manage intake, triage and prioritization of change initiatives
• Maintain demand vs. capacity view aligned with strategic priorities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for resource allocation
• Lead preparation of portfolio forecasts and reports for senior stakeholders
• Identify risks and opportunities and propose mitigations
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and policies
• Support decision-making with data-driven analysis
• Provide leadership and guidance to the portfolio planning team

Key requirements

• Strong expertise in portfolio planning within financial services
• Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans
• Solid understanding of financial regulations and compliance
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong leadership and team management abilities
• Effective communication skills for stakeholder engagement
• Experience with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
