Consultant Spinal Surgeon

Overview

In this role you will lead elective and emergency spinal surgery at the Northern General Hospital and contribute to paediatric spinal care via an Honorary Consultant position at Sheffield Children's Hospital. You will work within the national consultant contract, with flexibility for future offsite work if needed. The post welcomes candidates from recent trainees to seasoned consultants and supports personal arrangements around full-time work. Responsibilities

• Provide elective and emergency spinal surgery services at the Northern General Hospital
• Coordinate paediatric spinal care on-call management via Honorary Consultant role at Sheffield Children's Hospital
• Work under the national consultant contract and contribute to service planning
• Participate in on-call and collaborative care with consultant colleagues
• Adapt to service pressures and potential offsite work as needed

Key requirements

• GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining it
• FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent
• Spinal Fellowship
• Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Spine Surgery
• Broad clinical experience with subspecialty training
• Evidence of teaching and training experience
• Understanding of NHS management systems and clinical governance
• CME/CPD participation within last 12 months
• Good communication and language skills in English
• Experience at consultant level (desirable)
• UK professional registration and eligibility for visa sponsorship (as applicable)
