Overview

In this Senior VAT Manager role, you will lead and grow a VAT team within a leading Belfast-based independent firm. You’ll own complex VAT advisory work, develop client relationships, and support the Tax Partner in practice development. The position blends technical VAT expertise with leadership, collaboration, and a focus on growing the VAT offering. You’ll engage with senior stakeholders and drive business development to raise the firm’s profile in VAT. This is a prospect to shape a growing advisory practice and influence cross-functional delivery.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop the VAT team with day-to-day guidance and oversight
Own complex VAT advisory projects (land and property, M&A, corporate finance, commercial matters)
Serve as a trusted client contact for complex VAT advice with senior stakeholders
Collaborate with the Tax Partner on technical, client, and practice development
Manage client relationships with commercially-focused, robust advice
Drive business development and identify new opportunities
Support strategic growth and visibility of the VAT practice via events and webinars
Collaborate with colleagues across the firm to add value with specialist VAT input

Key requirements

Strong VAT knowledge for complex and commercially significant matters
Experience managing or developing colleagues and leading a VAT team
Credibility and communication skills to manage client relationships with senior stakeholders
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with practical, commercial solutions
Ability to work closely with the Tax Partner and take ownership of senior responsibilities
Commercial mindset with capability to contribute to business development
Excellent written and verbal communication with attention to detail
Collaborative, motivated attitude with commitment to ongoing technical/professional development
