Senior Catastrophe Analyst

Overview

In this role you will influence underwriting decisions through catastrophe modelling and exposure analytics within Markel International. You’ll partner with underwriters and senior stakeholders to drive profitable portfolio performance, providing data-driven insights and robust risk reporting. You will work across lines of business on natural catastrophe and anthropogenic risks, supporting risk development and portfolio management. Responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with divisional underwriters
• Provide ad hoc analytics for portfolio analysis and senior exec reporting
• Use third-party catastrophe models and in-house tools for pre-underwriting analysis
• Present results to senior stakeholders and underwriting teams
• Collaborate with colleagues across Markel offices and with model vendors
• Support team projects such as view of risk development
• Produce reporting for internal and external parties (Lloyd's, PRA)

Key requirements

• Catastrophe modelling or aggregation management experience in the London market; familiarity with industry-standard models (Verisk preferred)
• Strong problem solving and creative thinking to improve analytics quality and timeliness
• Excellent IT skills with knowledge of SQL and/or Python
• Experience with catastrophe management standards and portfolio-level aggregation techniques
• Proven collaboration skills and ability to build internal/external relationships
• Ability to balance multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
