Senior employment lawyer joining as Partner to lead Birketts’ Chelmsford Employment Team, shaping strategy, developing client relationships, and ensuring high service standards. You will drive team growth, oversee supervision and collaboration, and contribute to the firm’s growth and reputation. This role blends leadership, strategic planning, and client delivery in a flexible, hybrid working environment. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to expand the practice across key sectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day management and development of the Chelmsford Employment Team
• Shape the team’s direction and promote high client service, supervision, and collaboration
• Drive business development, pitches, and cross-selling to grow the client base
• Manage client relationships and project delivery with strong communication and client understanding
• Uphold risk management, Lexcel standards, and compliance across files
• Provide strategic input to business planning at senior level
• Mentor junior staff and support professional development in the team

Key requirements

• Strong technical expertise across the full spectrum of employment law
• Proven experience in developing client relationships
• Ability to contribute to strategic business planning at a senior level
• Commercially focused, collaborative, and committed to maintaining the firm’s reputation
• Experience with sectors including education, financial services, construction, transport, charities, and public sector
