Site Manager

Overview

As a Site Manager at Wates Construction, you will own day-to-day delivery on a live custodial project at HMP Liverpool. You will coordinate multiple work packages alongside the project team, supply chain partners and stakeholders to ensure safe, quality and on-program completion. The role focuses on leading site activities, maintaining records and building a strong health, safety and environment culture. This is a high-impact position within a Tier 1 contractor delivering a complex, secure environment project. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and must obtain the necessary security clearances.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day site activities and subcontractors
• Ensure works are delivered safely per health and safety requirements
• Monitor progress against programme and resolve potential issues
• Maintain high quality standards across works
• Coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontractor activities
• Manage individual work packages from start to finish
• Conduct site inspections, briefings and progress reviews
• Collaborate with Project Managers, commercial and design teams, and site colleagues
• Build positive relationships with supply chain and stakeholders
• Maintain accurate site records and documentation
• Promote health, safety and environmental culture on site

Key requirements

• Previous site management experience in construction
• Experience with main contractor or Tier 1 environments
• Strong knowledge of construction processes, sequencing and site management
• Experience managing subcontractors and multiple work packages
• Solid understanding of health and safety requirements
• Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills
• Problem-solving and decision-making in a busy site setting
• Collaborative approach with colleagues and partners
• SMSTS
• CSCS
• First Aid qualification
• Experience in custodial/secure or complex live environments advantageous
• Security clearance requirements for role
