Consultant Psychiatrist - Cove Ward Adult Inpatients

Overview

In this role you will lead recovery-focused, individualized treatment for male adult inpatients on Cove ward, working within an MDT to manage the acute phase of illness. You will ensure plans are proactive, with care delivered in the least restrictive setting. You will operate within the NHS framework, including MHA responsibilities, and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive work culture. This position offers the chance to shape inpatient care at a trusted trust and support short-stay pathways. You will engage across teams to drive quality and patient-centered outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proactive, recovery-focused, individualized treatment plans for each patient
• Collaborate with a dedicated MDT to deliver care on Cove ward
• Assess and manage a wide range of psychiatric presentations in adults
• Operate within least restrictive care principles and aim for short lengths of stay
• Apply Section 12 and other MHA-related responsibilities in practice
• Contribute to multidisciplinary teaching and clinical leadership as appropriate

Key requirements

• MRCPsych
• Full GMC Registration
• On Specialist Register/CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or eligible for inclusion within six months
• Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act

• excellent written and verbal communication
• ability to work independently and in an MDT
• ability to work under pressure
• communicate complex information to diverse audiences including courts
• motivate and develop junior medical staff and MDT members
• balance individual patient needs with Directorate and Trust priorities
