Street Care Operative

Overview

In this frontline role you work with the lead operative to deliver streetcare services across South Gloucestershire. You will operate specialist grounds equipment to maintain verges, footpaths and public spaces, and respond to council requests with accuracy and safety. The role combines practical maintenance with public-facing duties, contributing to community cleanliness and safety. You’ll be supported by training, a team ethos and clear supervision to deliver high standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate strimmers, hedge cutters, leaf blowers, pole saw and other power tools
• Undertake maintenance tasks: strimming, hedge cutting, detritus clearance, fencing repairs, litter picking
• Carry out routine maintenance on roadside verges and footpaths
• Communicate with residents and provide accurate information
• Report feedback to lead operative and escalate as needed
• Travel throughout the authority and surrounding area from Broad Lane Depot
• Follow health and safety guidance and complete records accurately
• Provide high standard of customer care in face-to-face interactions

Key requirements

• Demonstrable experience in a grounds role
• Experience operating commercial grounds equipment (strimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers)
• Full UK driving licence (ideally with long wheelbase transit-style tipper experience)
• Ability to follow instructions, read maps and complete records accurately
• Good understanding of health and safety and associated risks
• Face-to-face customer service experience in public settings
