In this role, you will lead and manage internal auditors to deliver high-quality audits across multiple council services. You will ensure compliance with internal audit standards, mentor junior staff, and drive timely, within-budget assurance on governance, risk, and controls. You will communicate findings clearly to senior leaders and help implement improvements that address root causes. This is a chance to shape audit quality and support resident-focused service improvements across five London Boroughs.

Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a small team of auditors on technically challenging audits
Plan, execute and complete end-to-end audits across financial and non-financial council services
Ensure compliance with Global Internal Audit Standards and timeliness/budget targets
Escalate non-compliance issues and provide actionable recommendations
Prepare professional audit reports for Heads of Services and Directors to support improvements
Build trust-based relationships with service leaders and auditees to facilitate access and cooperation
Key requirements
At least 5 years’ auditing experience in Local Government or public sector
Professional qualification: IIA, CCAB, or AAT (or similar)
Strong leadership and coaching abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience delivering end-to-end audits and managing varying workloads
Desirable: experience with SQL, Python, Power BI or other data analytics/visualisation tools
