Principal Flood Modeller

Overview

In this role you will lead a team of modellers and flood risk engineers to deliver FRAs and flood studies for private and public sector projects, aligning with planning policies and sustainable drainage requirements. You will shape flood risk strategies across a range of developments and contribute to business growth through client engagement and project leadership. Responsibilities

• Lead a team of modellers and flood risk engineers to produce FRAs for development projects
• Conduct flood studies for public sector requirements
• Oversee hydrology, hydraulic modelling and river engineering work
• Lead bids in private and potentially public sectors
• Assess and communicate flooding and drainage constraints at development sites
• Prepare and review FRA reports and drainage strategies using MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage
• Ensure compliance with planning policy (NPPF) and SuDS Manual
• Mentor junior staff and engage in client-facing activities

Key requirements

• 6+ years in hydrology, hydraulic modelling and river engineering
• Experience with private and public sector clients
• Proficiency in 1D/2D modelling (Flood Modeller, Tuflow)
• Knowledge of FRA methodologies and drainage strategies (MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage)
• Understanding of NPPF and SuDS Manual
• Strong report writing and communication skills
• Experience leading bids and client-facing delivery
• Ability to manage projects and budgets
• River engineering and restoration experience beneficial
• Professional qualification relevant to the field (in progress or achieved)
