Overview

As Commissioning Manager, you will lead the commissioning strategy and governance for a growing hyperscale data centre portfolio. You will provide technical leadership across design, construction and operations to ensure readiness and seamless handover. You will manage integrated commissioning programmes, coordinate contractors and suppliers, and drive continuous improvement. This London-based role offers hybrid working and international travel, with a strong focus on performance, resilience and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning strategy, standards and governance across projects ensuring compliance with codes and contracts
• Manage integrated commissioning programmes from design review through testing, handover and acceptance
• Provide commissioning input during tender, pre-construction and design stages to ensure full commissionability
• Oversee commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical and building services systems including FAT, SAT and IST
• Coordinate commissioning contractors, vendors and the Commissioning Authority (CxA) ensuring programme, quality and documentation adherence
• Oversee documentation (L1–L5 test scripts, L6 checklists, test records, commissioning dossiers)
• Lead and witness testing, manage defects and close out issues per acceptance criteria
• Collaborate with Construction, Project Management and Project Controls to manage milestones, resources, risks and interfaces
• Coordinate with Site Operations for operational readiness, training, O&M documentation and handover
• Provide technical guidance on system performance, resilience, availability and fault tolerance
• Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and lessons learned across commissioning

Key requirements

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Significant commissioning experience in data centre sector (colocation and hyperscale)
• Strong technical background in building services and systems commissioning
• Thorough understanding of construction process from design to handover
• Knowledge of international design codes and ASHRAE standards
• Experience managing commissioning programmes, contractors, vendors and specialist consultants
• Strong understanding of FAT, SAT, IST and commissioning documentation
• Knowledge of building management systems and controls
• Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills
• Experience in a matrix organisation would be advantageous
• Professional engineering institution membership desirable
• Full driving licence and willingness for international travel
