Technical Director - Electrical (Building Services)

Overview

In this role you co-lead a cross-disciplinary MEP team within WSP, delivering complex electrical and building services projects for high-profile sites such as airports and hospitals. You act as a project delivery lead, guiding design, feasibility studies, and client liaison to ensure outcomes meet client expectations and KPIs. You’ll work closely with graduate to principal engineers, BIM and sustainability specialists, shaping technical direction and project success. Responsibilities

• Lead design and provide technical guidance as a project manager within an MEP discipline on diverse projects
• Supervise detailed designs and the work of team members
• Assess project feasibility and lead overall feasibility studies
• Produce detailed and performance specifications for the discipline
• Act as the client’s primary contact and own project delivery and KPIs
• Interpret client needs and align deliverables with project goals
• Coordinate resourcing, brief project teams, and manage contracts/letters of intent
• Conduct regular team meetings addressing resources, H&S, quality, and development
• Maintain project overview and liaise with team leaders to optimize utilization

Key requirements

• UK vetting level of Security Check (SC)
• Experience on MEP Building services projects with aviation background
• Electrical design skills: LV distribution, cable calculations (ElectricalOM or Amtech), lighting calculations, energy lighting, small power
• Fire detection & alarm, intruder detection, access control & security, disabled call systems
• Data cabling and outlets, lightning protection
• RevitMEP training applied to the discipline
• BEng/BSc/MEng in engineering; chartership with CIBSE/IET/Engineering Council
