Overview

In this role you join Cornwall Council’s Regulatory and Litigation Team to provide specialist civil and regulatory advice and advocacy. You will handle a varied caseload across judicial review, housing, contracts, debt recovery, and enforcement, working with a supportive team to secure positive outcomes for customers. The position offers flexible/home-based work with office presence as required, and opportunities to develop advocacy across courts and tribunals. You will contribute to a dynamic public service focused on delivering effective legal support across the council and its partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice on civil and regulatory matters across a wide range of issues
• Develop and exercise advocacy in courts, tribunals and hearings
• Draft settlement agreements and manage mediation/ADR processes
• Handle cases including housing, contracts, debt recovery, boundary disputes, injunctions, and enforcement
• Advise on housing disrepair, building control, health and safety, and related regulatory regimes
• Support cross-functional teams within the council and wider organisation
• Learn and adapt to local government legal requirements and processes

Key requirements

• Qualified solicitor, barrister, FCILEx or equivalent relevant experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict timescales
• Adaptable, collaborative, and team-oriented
