Overview

In this role you will lead landowner consultations and advise on Development Consent Orders for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects. You will draft lands-related documents, support compulsory purchase processes, and negotiate with landowners, collaborating with cross-functional teams across major projects. You will build client relationships, extend instructions, and help shape land assembly strategies while upholding quality assurance. This is a client-facing, technically deep opportunity within Gateley Built Environment, offering scope to influence high-profile infrastructure work.

Responsibilities

• Lead on landowner consultations for Development Consent Orders and advise on promotion and implementation of compulsory purchase powers
• Draft and oversee lands-related documents for DCO preparation and implementation
• Negotiate with landowners and manage compensation claims and settlements
• Prepare reports and advice notes on compulsory purchase and compensation matters
• Provide advice to landowners affected by CPOs, including objections, petitions, and negotiation of claims
• Engage with multiple stakeholders across the life cycle of major projects and collaborate with other disciplines
• Build client relationships, pursue new instructions and support business development
• Lead and oversee the preparation of Property Costs Estimates

Key requirements

• BSc Hons
• MRICS qualified
• Experience negotiating and advising clients
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proactive and disciplined
• Ambitious with strong negotiation skills
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
• Strong time management and attention to detail
• Experience in promoting, submitting, delivering and implementing DCOs and CPOs
• Understanding of Planning Act 2008, Town and Country Planning Act, Transport and Works Act 1992 and related legislation
