Overview

As Senior Environment Manager for HS2, you will lead environmental assurance across a major section of the route and oversee a small team. You will coordinate specialist expertise and work with delivery partners to ensure environmental obligations and statutory requirements are met, supporting successful project delivery. This client-side leadership role places you as the key environmental lead in your area, shaping environmental performance on one of the UK’s largest infrastructure programmes. You will contribute to the long-term sustainability and compliance of the project while working in a high-profile, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

Lead environmental assurance across a significant section of the HS2 route
Provide strategic oversight of environmental performance
Manage a small environmental team and coordinate specialists
Collaborate with delivery partners to ensure environmental obligations are met
Ensure compliance with statutory environmental requirements
Support project delivery and problem-solve complex environmental issues
Act as the primary environmental lead for the geographical area
Influence contractors to meet environmental obligations and contracts

Key requirements

Significant environmental management experience on major infrastructure or civil engineering projects
Previous leadership or line management experience
Experience in client-side assurance, consultancy or principal contractor environments
Strong understanding of construction contracts and environmental compliance
Experience managing complex environmental issues through to resolution
Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
Ability to make balanced decisions and remain resilient in challenging situations
Full UK driving licence and vehicle
