Associate Director, Cost Management

Overview

As a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, you will lead cost management delivery for major Welsh commissions within Gleeds’ Cardiff team. You’ll support directors, nurture client relationships, and steer cost planning, procurement, and post‑contract cost management across refurbishment, fit-out, and new build healthcare projects. The role offers regional impact, growth opportunities, and a pathway to leadership in a global advisory firm.

Responsibilities

• Support Business Unit Directors in achieving objectives
• Develop and maintain client relationships
• Deliver cost management deliverables meeting client requirements
• Prepare and present cost estimates and option studies
• Cost planning and cost-in-use studies
• Advise on procurement strategies and tender documentation
• Manage tender processes and evaluate tenders
• Value completed work and settle final accounts
• Provide technical advice on contract and legal issues
• Administer contracts as Contract Administrator or Employer’s Agent
• Mentor and coach staff
• Identify new business opportunities and drive growth
• Prepare bids and manage service delivery for profit
• Escalate issues impacting professional indemnity insurance
• Promote career development within the team

Key requirements

• MRICS
• cost estimating and planning experience
• post-contract cost management experience
• knowledge of construction methods and materials
• experience with procurement strategies and tendering
• strong communication and numeracy skills
• ICT proficiency in MS Office
• ability to absorb complex information and work in a team
• understanding of building contracts legislation
• experience with healthcare/public sector projects
• ability to manage contracts as CA or EOA
