Quantum Cryptography Architect

Overview

In this role you will own Starling’s cryptography roadmap, focusing on post-quantum readiness to future-proof our security posture. You will lead crypto strategy across cloud and on‑prem environments, shaping secure architectures for modern banking platforms. You’ll collaborate with engineers and security teams to embed crypto‑friendly designs and threat modeling into the development lifecycle. This is a chance to contribute to a high‑impact, tech‑driven fintech that values innovation and responsible security. You’ll work closely with cross‑functional partners to elevate Starling’s security stance and regulatory alignment.

Responsibilities

• Architect end‑to‑end security solutions for cloud‑native applications and modern banking platforms
• Develop and lead the Post‑Quantum Cryptography transition roadmap and crypto‑inventory strategy
• Perform threat modeling and technical risk assessments on platform architectures
• Define and promote enterprise cryptographic management standards (key lifecycle, HSMs, cipher suites)
• Review architectural documents and ADRs to ensure alignment with guardrails and regulations
• Mentor engineering teams on cryptographic implementations and data protection
• Support daily security architecture activities for the team
• Design and build PoC solutions to aid engineering teams

Key requirements

• Security Architecture experience in AWS/GCP
• Deep cryptography expertise (PKI, digital signatures, KMS, HSMs)
• Post‑Quantum Cryptography knowledge (NIST PQC, crypto‑agility)
• Threat modeling and system design for cloud‑native apps (Kubernetes, ECS)
• Pragmatic problem solving to enable engineering speed
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
