Senior Hydraulic Modeller

Overview

In this Senior Hydraulic Modeller role, you will lead hydraulic modelling and flood risk studies within a multidisciplinary River and Coastal Management team. You’ll contribute to UK projects, mentoring junior colleagues and collaborating with Environmental Planning, Ecology, Transport and Civils to deliver river engineering and infrastructure schemes. You’ll develop methodologies aligned with client briefs, deliver studies within time and cost constraints, and communicate findings to clients and regulators. The role combines technical leadership with opportunities to influence project delivery and fee proposals. You’ll work across multiple locations with hybrid working and occasional travel

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver hydraulic modelling studies and flood risk assessments
• Self-review and ensure quality of modelling outputs
• Supervise and mentor junior team members; provide technical guidance
• Collaborate with other disciplines to deliver multidisciplinary projects
• Prepare fee proposals and support project management
• Prepare and present technical findings to clients, regulators, and non-technical audiences
• Support planning applications through Flood Risk Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments

Key requirements

• BSc/BEng/MEng in hydrology or hydraulics
• Chartered (or on track to chartership) with a professional body
• Experience with 1D/2D hydraulic modelling (Flood Modeller, ESTRY, TUFLOW)
• Hydrological modelling using FEH methods (ReFH2, WINFAP)
• Flood risk assessments and planning support experience
• Experience with GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS, MapInfo)
• Knowledge of HEC-RAS and Infoworks ICM (desirable)
• Experience training or supervising junior staff
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Strong communication skills (reports and presentations)
