Layout Artist

Overview

In this Layout Artist role, you will pre-visualize shots through camera animation, staging, and blocking to provide a solid foundation for downstream CG work. You’ll collaborate with previs, postvis, and other departments to ensure continuity and efficient pipeline handoffs. The position offers opportunities across advertising, episodic, and immersive projects within a creative, tech-enabled studio. You will work in a dynamic team, shaping how scenes read and flow before animation begins.

Responsibilities

• Camera/assets staging/blocking
• Overseeing Previs and Postvis ingestion
• Setup and maintenance of Conforms
• Shot content maintenance for animation

Key requirements

• Strong Maya knowledge with solid problem solving and understanding of the VFX pipeline
• Houdini knowledge is an advantage
• Attention to detail with ability to maintain sequence continuity and strong shot composition
• Experience in cinematography for virtual environments
• Experience in scene layout to match previs or storyboard reference
• Excellent understanding of practical cameras and camera techniques
• Experience in camera tracking and animation blocking; MatchMove in 3DEqualizer is beneficial
• Basic MEL and Python scripting is ideal but not required
• Able to work under pressure with short turnarounds
• Able to take direction and feedback from supervisor
• Organising skills to keep scenes tidy for downstream pipeline
