Commercial Manager

Overview

In this role you lead the commercial delivery for multiple large social housing refurbishment and planned maintenance contracts. You will drive profitability, manage risk, and mentor a team of quantity surveyors across a diverse project portfolio. You’ll collaborate with Operational Directors, Contracts Managers and clients to ensure safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery while strengthening stakeholder relationships. The role offers strategic influence, growth opportunities for the commercial team, and exposure to decarbonisation and sustainability programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial management of three large-scale planned maintenance and refurbishment contracts
• Mentor and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors and commercial professionals
• Oversee cost management, forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting across contracts
• Drive profitability through procurement, subcontractor management and value engineering
• Oversee valuations, variations, change control and final account negotiations
• Identify and mitigate commercial risks while ensuring contractual compliance
• Support operations to deliver works on time and within budget and quality standards
• Build relationships with clients, stakeholders and supply chain partners
• Provide strategic commercial leadership and contribute to business growth opportunities

Key requirements

• Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial role
• Experience managing multiple contracts and a commercial team
• Strong contractual knowledge (ideally JCT, NEC or partnering contracts)
• Excellent commercial acumen with a track record of improving margin and performance
• Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills
• Ability to operate strategically while maintaining attention to detail
