Senior Hydrologist (Flood Risk Consultant)

Overview

As a Senior Hydrologist in Stantec’s Water Environment Team, you will lead complex flood risk and drainage projects across the UK, shaping climate-resilient solutions. You will work with a large multidisciplinary team, mentor junior colleagues, and influence the future direction of our flood risk capability. Your work will span assessments, hydraulic modelling, SuDS design, and development planning support to improve resilience and water security. This is a growth role with opportunities for broad leadership impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver flood risk and drainage consultancy across the water sector
• Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to quality assurance
• Support business development and strategic direction of the flood risk capability
• Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and support development planning
• Conduct hydraulic modelling (Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM)
• Apply hydrological methods (FEH, ReFH2, WINFAP)
• Design surface water drainage strategies and SuDS
• Undertake LLFA studies (SWMPs, Local Flood Risk Management Plans, Flood Protection Schemes)
• Engage with Environment Agency, SEPA, LLFAs and water companies
• Contribute to EIA preparation and GIS analysis (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS)
• Liaise with stakeholders to deliver resilient outcomes

Key requirements

• Significant experience delivering water environment projects
• Leadership and strong client relationship skills
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects and support BD
• Excellent written reports for technical and non-technical audiences
• Quality assurance discipline for high-consequence work
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or related discipline; Chartered or working towards it with CIWEM/ICE or similar body
