The Opportunity
Were working with a leading facilities management provider supporting the UK Defence estate, who are looking for an experienced Service Manager to take ownership of service delivery across a designated area in Taunton. This is a key operational role, acting as the link between service delivery teams, supply chain partners, DIO, Heads of Establishment and other site stakeholders. Youll be responsible for making sure reactive maintenance, planned works, statutory compliance and Billable Works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standards. Its a varied role that combines operational management, contractor performance, customer relationships and compliance, with plenty of opportunity to improve how services are delivered across the estate.

The Role
As Service Manager, youll take day-to-day ownership of service performance across your area, ensuring work is delivered safely, compliantly and in line with contractual requirements. Youll monitor KPIs, review service data and reports, identify risks and issues, and work closely with operational teams to resolve problems before they impact delivery. A key part of the role will be managing Supply Chain partners and ensuring contractors are delivering work safely, efficiently and to the required standard. This will cover reactive maintenance, planned maintenance and smaller Billable Works projects, with responsibility for ensuring the correct documentation, RAMS, permits and compliance processes are in place. Youll also build strong relationships with DIO representatives and Heads of Establishment, understanding site priorities and making sure the service delivered supports the operational requirements of the estate.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of service delivery across a designated area of the Defence estate
• Manage reactive maintenance, planned maintenance and minor Billable Works
• Monitor KPIs, service performance, budgets and customer requirements
• Manage Supply Chain partners and contractor performance
• Ensure RAMS, permits, documentation and Safe Systems of Work are in place
• Support statutory compliance across the estate, including asbestos, legionella and fire safety
• Identify and manage risks, issues and opportunities before they affect service delivery
• Maintain accurate maintenance and asset records through CAFM systems
• Provide technical guidance and support to customers, site teams and stakeholders
• Take responsibility for relevant Temporary Works and CDM requirements
• Build strong working relationships with DIO and Heads of Establishment
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service quality and customer experience
• Support sustainability initiatives and the MoDs carbon reduction objectives

What Were Looking For

• Youll ideally have experience managing facilities management, maintenance or operational service delivery within a complex environment, with a good understanding of compliance, contractor management and customer service.
• Youll be comfortable managing multiple workstreams, coordinating teams and supply chain partners, and taking ownership when things need resolving. Experience across reactive and planned maintenance, statutory compliance, project management and Billable Works would be particularly useful.
• Youll also need a strong understanding of Health & Safety and Safe Systems of Work, including RAMS and permits, alongside relevant compliance areas such as asbestos, legionella and fire safety.
• Experience using CAFM systems, particularly Maximo, would be beneficial, alongside strong IT and data analysis skills.
• A relevant technical qualification in Building Services, Engineering, Facilities Management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience, is required.
• Additional qualifications such as IOSH, SMSTS, Temporary Works Coordinator or CDM training would be advantageous.
• Most importantly, youll be a confident communicator who can build strong relationships with customers, contractors and operational teams, while remaining organised, proactive and focused on delivering a safe, compliant and reliable service.
