Main responsibilities of an ASD Teaching Assistant:

• Supporting primary school pupils with ASD, ADHD, and other additional learning needs.
• Providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to meet individual learning needs.
• Assisting class teachers and the SENDCo in implementing personalised learning strategies and support plans.
• Creating a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment where all pupils feel included.
• Encouraging communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence.
• Adapting classroom activities and resources to support pupils with different learning styles and needs.
• Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and external SEND professionals.

The ideal ASD Teaching Assistant will have:

• A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related subject, or relevant experience supporting children with SEND.
• Previous child-centred experience, ideally within a school, care, mentoring, or support setting.
• A genuine passion for supporting autistic children and pupils with additional needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside patience, empathy, and resilience.
• A proactive and flexible approach to supporting pupils with diverse learning needs.
• Aspirations towards teaching, Educational Psychology, speech and language therapy, or a long-term career in SEND education.
