Health & Safety Officer - Part-Time | 24 Hours per Week | £30,000+ Full-Time Equivalent | 5% Pension

A part-time Health & Safety Officer opportunity has become available within an established manufacturing business in the Birmingham area. The successful individual will lead day-to-day health and safety activities, with support from senior management, the SHEQ team and external consultants.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working closely with production teams, improving workplace safety and keeping compliance documentation up to date.

Health & Safety Officer responsibilities

• Complete and review risk assessments, implementing practical controls across manufacturing activities.
• Manage COSHH assessments, hazardous substance registers and safety data sheets.
• Oversee contractor safety, reviewing RAMS and managing permits to work.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, driving corrective actions through to completion.
• Deliver inductions, safety training and toolbox talks, promoting a positive safety culture.
• Maintain compliance records, report safety KPIs and coordinate health surveillance, PPE checks and audit preparation.

Desirable skills and experience for the Health & Safety Officer role

• NEBOSH qualification and previous health and safety experience within manufacturing.
• Experience managing COSHH and working around hazardous substances.
• Confidence completing risk assessments, reviewing RAMS and managing contractors.
• Knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and awareness of ISO 14001 / ISO 45001.
• Chemical manufacturing or FMCG experience would be beneficial.
• A practical, organised approach, with confidence engaging employees and using Microsoft Office.

Health & Safety Officer benefits

• £30,000+ full-time equivalent, dependent on experience and pro rata for 24 hours per week.
