Our client is a leading provider of waste management and environmental services, operating a large commercial vehicle fleet across the UK.

HGV Workshop Supervisor

Location: Reading
Salary: Competitive
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-4:30pm, plus alternate Saturdays 7:00am-11:30am

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate workshop technicians and apprentices, ensuring effective allocation of work and smooth handovers.
• Support and guide the workshop team to work safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Carry out hands-on technician duties, including servicing, repairs and general workshop support.
• Manage service sheets, job cards, open defects and assist with vehicle-off-road reporting.
• Work closely with the Workshop Manager and operations team to maintain vehicle availability.
• Assist with parts ordering, stock control and maintaining accurate workshop records.
• Ensure compliance with company Health & Safety procedures and relevant legislation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement across workshop processes and working practices.

Requirements

• Previous experience in an HGV workshop environment, ideally in a supervisory or senior technician capacity.
• Experienced HGV Technicians with mentoring or supporting junior technicians/apprentices will also be considered.
• LGV Class 2 licence and digital tachograph card - essential.
• City & Guilds HGV Parts 1-3, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
• Strong practical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
• Experience diagnosing faults and carrying out effective vehicle repairs.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements and workshop best practice.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to support and guide a workshop team.
